Bollywood has given us several great performances of fathers over the decades. Since it was Father’s Day recently, we thought it would be appropriate to list some of the best father-centric Bollywood movies. This list shows some of our favorite cine fathers of all time. We would love to have your response on our choices!

1. ANUPAM KHER – DADDY

he extremely talented Pooja Bhatt’s debut film, Daddy is one of those gems to go back to time and again. An alcoholic father played by Anupam Kher,  is kept away from his daughter for years. They meet at a fateful point in her life. As the movie progresses, we see how with her love and care the two solve the issues of years of separation and give a beautiful meaning to the relationship. Anupam Kher’s role has remained a benchmark for the genre. We suggest you give this movie a try; if you haven’t seen it already!

2. NASEERUDDIN SHAH – MASOOM

What are the emotions that you feel when you are an illegitimate child? Particularly when your father cannot publicly acknowledge you as his son, as it would reveal his infidelity? A story of betrayal and regret, Masoom is a movie we all need to watch with our fathers. Naseeruddin Shah essays a very complex character of a father who cannot claim his son for fear of breaking up his family.

3. MEHMOOD – KUNWARA BAAP

Kunwara Baap is an absolute emotional roller coaster guaranteed too tug at your heart strings. Mehmood plays a father to an abandoned child and takes care of him like his own. The struggles he goes through to make money for the child’s operation is the highlight of the movie. A truly touching movie that shows the true meaning of a father-son relationship!

4. AMITABH BACHCHAN – AAKREE RAASTA

A powerful performance by Amitabh Bachchan as he plays the roles of both father and the son in a story of revenge.Ironically, Bachchan as the son is pitted against his biological father; a relationship he is not aware of. We love the acting and the plot and recommend this as a good weekend watch.

5. AMRISH PURI – GARDISH

Father-son relationships are very often edgy; both are strong willed, sometimes on opposing sides. In Gardish,  the late Amrish Puri  turns in a power-packed performance  as an honest constable who dreams of his son being an inspector. Instead, his dreams are shattered when his son joins the underworld. To see the clash of wills, this is a classic father-son movie we strongly recommend.

We hope you enjoyed the list. If there are more that you would want to add, let us know in the comments section below.
