Students from Salaam Bombay Foundation’s (SBF) Academy of Arts got an opportunity of a lifetime to learn the craft of theatre and camera acting in a special workshop conducted by Anupam Kher’s Actor Prepares, India’s premier acting institute. The workshop was conducted on May 7th at the institute’s premises in Andheri West, Mumbai, and was an immense success.
The workshop is organised with a motive to teach these students the finer aspects of the performing art, improve their skills and guide them on their path to pursue acting professionally. Out of the 25 students who attended the workshop, three students have been selected for the scholarship by Actor Prepares. These students will get complete support from the acting school in terms of further training and guidance.
Despite hailing from a humble background, these students have achieved a remarkable feat in the art of acting. They had an overwhelming experience stepping onto the professional stage for the first time and pursued their dream of ‘Acting’. Their fresh talent found its wings as they enacted various roles and were elated taking centre stage.
Salaam Bombay Foundation started in 2002 to work with 12 to 17-year-old adolescent children growing up in Mumbai’s slums. These children live in extreme poverty and in ‘at-risk’ environments. The municipal schools they go to do not have the resources to give them individual attention, career guidance, or access to activities that stimulate the mind. Many are undernourished and face the risk of substance abuse. They come from financially challenged homes and are pressured to drop out of secondary school to seek jobs to support their families. Given these ground realities, Salaam Bombay Foundation has equipped the kids with the necessary skills for them to develop well-rounded personalities, face challenges, and take on leadership roles within their communities.
Actor Prepares, established by international actor Anupam Kher, is the most preferred acting institute for aspiring actors worldwide.
