The Crossover with alumnus Kenny Basumatary

As part of the Crossover series we invited our student Kenny Basumatary to interact with the Jan-March 2014 Diploma batch students. Kenny graduated in 2008 from Actor Prepares has acted in various commercials and TV shows. He has recently directed and acted in the Assamese movie Local Kung Fu and is now going to be part of the biopic on Mary Kom starring Priyanka Chopra.

In his session Kenny spoke about fond memories of his time spent at Actor Prepares and also stressed on how Actor Prepares trained him to become a better actor. He also addressed certain issues that newcomers face when they complete their course and how to tackle them. He also mentioned how he struggled for work for 5 years before he got the right kind of work. Kenny also emphasized on the importance of preparation and how even though you may think you are good, it is always better to prepare. He narrate a personal incident about when he had gone to a particular audition without preparing well as he was overconfident that he would do well but at the end he did not get selected for the role as his audition did’t go that well because he wasn’t prepared.

With such great personal life experiences, Kenny gave a very honest image about the Indian film industry to the students and stressed on the aspect as to why the Indian film industry is one of the most difficult industries to get work and hence an actor has to be confident about his skill and has to have the will and patience to make a mark  in this industry. We thank Kenny for conduct this amazing session which gave the students a very pragmatic approach about the film industry.
