On May 25, 1984, Saaransh was released at the Metro Theatre and it went on to become a benchmark in Indian Cinema. The film, which portrays a retired school headmaster's fight for justice, against the backdrop of coping with his son's death in the US, unleashed the acting talent of Anupam Kher which went to win many awards.
To mark the 25th anniversary of the launch of Saaransh, Anupam Kher held a premier at the same venue, now Metro Adlabs, on May 24th, 2009, at which he invited everyone from the film he could reconnect with.
While veteran actor Nilu Phule, now in Pune could not attend due to ill-health, Director Mahesh Bhatt, co-stars Rohin Hattangadi, Soni Razdan and Madan Jain, were present at the event, as were David Dhawan, editor and Amit Khanna, dialogue writer. Among the celebrities who took a walk down memory lane that evening was a director's brigade which included Yash Chopra, Bunty Walia, Rakesh Mehra, Satish Kaushik and Kunal Kohli.
